AT&T Bandwidth Throtteling Could Lower Prices

AT&T said roughly 1% of its users make up 20% of total traffic.

Like Comcast Corp. (CMCSK, CMCSA) and Time Warner Cable Inc. (TWC), AT&T will be exploring ways to better control Internet usage by its customers. While the cable companies are looking at capping the amount of bandwidth a person has each month, Donovan said the company is looking at tiered services or perhaps pushing for heavy users to tax the network during off-peak hours.

“We don’t know how it’s going to shake out,” he said, noting the services could result in cheaper rates for casual users.
