Google Voice for iPhone Coming Soon. Exciting

Soon Google Voice will be available within the Google Apps Suite. It will just have a long beta period with the general set of Gmail users before going to the paid services.

What is Cloud Computing?

Google Apps - Email Archiving

“More and more we hear from businesses that managing email storage and retention is expensive and complicated. Regulations and guidelines like the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure put pressure on IT organizations to ensure that email is properly retained and can be reliably located and preserved in the event of legal discovery. Coupled with the growing importance of email as a store of intellectual property, email archiving has become both legally necessary and critical to the operation of your business. Currently there is a lot of confusion in the marketplace about what kind of archiving solutions organizations should pursue, and that confusion is discouraging companies from taking this necessary step to protect their business.

To make the decision as easy as possible, we’ve simplified the pricing for our hosted email security and archiving package, Google Message Discovery.”

AT&T Switches to from Dish to DirecTV

“There were growing signs in recent months that AT&T might choose DirecTV over Dish. In July, AT&T said it would terminate its contract with Dish but would continue to evaluate the prospects of a new partnership. In June, Dish disclosed that AT&T had requested that the satellite-TV company buy back $500 million in convertible debt held by the telecoms concern, which raised questions about the future of their alliance.

Dish shares, which ended at $24.55 on the Nasdaq Stock Market Friday in 4 p.m. trading, was down 5.9% in after-hours trading. DirecTV shares were up 2.3% to $27.15 in after-hours trading.”

Here Comes Google Android for T-Mobile

T-Mobile USA is introducing the high-profile device as it begins to upgrade its network nationwide to support third-generation broadband services. Google hopes that hundreds of phone models will be built around Android, giving the company another way to deliver advertisements and drive revenue.

AT&T Bandwidth Throtteling Could Lower Prices

AT&T said roughly 1% of its users make up 20% of total traffic.

Like Comcast Corp. (CMCSK, CMCSA) and Time Warner Cable Inc. (TWC), AT&T will be exploring ways to better control Internet usage by its customers. While the cable companies are looking at capping the amount of bandwidth a person has each month, Donovan said the company is looking at tiered services or perhaps pushing for heavy users to tax the network during off-peak hours.

“We don’t know how it’s going to shake out,” he said, noting the services could result in cheaper rates for casual users.

Google’s Chrome Browser Helps Consumers Reach the Cloud(s)

Nice article from Om Malik from GigaOm on BusinessWeek.com

A lot has changed in the past 10 years. For one thing, the cost of hardware and network infrastructure has declined sharply. Such a decline has led to what’s known as cloud computing, whereby companies like Amazon.com (AMZN) offer infrastructure on demand. That has, in turn, allowed innovators to roll out their applications without making major outlays up front.

In the meantime, always-on broadband connections at home, work, and on the move have become commonplace. This has served as a catalyst for those who have developed Web services that are now screaming for browsers that allow your data to live on the Web but be accessible offline, a trend I first wrote about in a column for the now defunct Business 2.0 magazine back in March 2006.
